Born in Langzhong, Sichuan Province, China, Yang has been painting for over fifty years. He is the director of the Sichuan Artists Association, research fellow and resident artist of the Art Institute of the Sichuan Artists Association. Beyond China, many of his works have been collected in the USA, Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In 2014 he presented a seminar on Chinese ink and wash painting entitled “Capturing Spirit” at several well-known institutions in and around Boston, including MIT, Brown University, University of Rhode Island, UMass Boston, and Tufts University. He currently resides in Natick, Massachusetts where he teaches Chinese ink and wash painting.
Awards:
• “Melody in the Night” received the Maple Award at the “International Ink and Wash Painting Exhibition” held in Canada, and was honored with the “Excellent Award” of the “Sichuan Art Exhibition”1997;
• “Lofty Scholar” received the bronze award at the “3rd International Ink and Wash Painting Exhibition” held in Australia, 1999;

• Amorous Tibet was selected for the “National Art Exhibition in Memorial of the 100th Anniversary of Deng Xiaoping’s Birth”, hosted by the Chinese Artists Association.
• Young Monk was selected for the “Zhongsheng-Cup National Art Exhibition”, hosted by the Chinese Artists Association.
• Travel in the Desert was selected for the “Soul of the Nation: Affection for Homeland National Art Exhibition”, hosted by the Chinese Artists Association.
• Affection was selected for the “New Century National Art Exhibition”, hosted by the Chinese Artists Association.
• Story of Longshan was selected for the “National Art Exhibition in Celebration of the Return of Macao to China” hosted by the Chinese Artists Association.
• His comic strips Knocking on Death’s Door by Mistake, Prefer Money to Life, and Head to Sell were published by Comic Strip Magazine and Lingnan Art Publishing House.
