This 5-session class is composed by 2 parts:
The first hour introduces Traditional Chinese Brush Painting. It incorporates the brush utilizing skills from Chinese Calligraphy and illustrates the imagery from the Ancient Chinese poems. Students will learn from the classical masterpieces and create paintings with traditional Chinese elements using self-identified unique methods formed through the practices and studies from vast amount of the classics.
The second hour unit covers the basics of Chinese Calligraphy, helping the students learning how to use a brush to write on the rice paper, widely used in traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. The course takes a scientific and systematic approach, and guides the students to form their own style once the fundamentals are grasped.
Instructor Bio:
Mr. Mei Zhang, has studied from and trained by renowned masters in Chinese Calligraphy in China. He was a member of Chinese Calligrapher’s Association in Sichuan and Shanghai before coming to U.S. Currently he is a member of Painters Guild in Lexington Arts and Crafts Society (LACS), a member of New England Art Therapy Association (NEATA), an editor of North American Journal of Medicine and Health, and an editor of Pulse Magazine. By teaching calligraphy and Chinese traditional painting, Mr. Zhang is dedicated to share the traditional way of art learning process to benefit calligraphers and painters of all kinds. Mr. Zhang also work on research articles about and participate in art therapy for autism patients.

教师简介：
张眉 医学博士，自幼长期研习书法，师从书法名师。曾在重庆市青少年书法比赛中获奖。参加过四川省书法新人新作展、四川省书法家邀请展，并被接纳为四川省书法家协会会员。后来移居上海工作，成为上海书法家协会会员，应邀参加过上海书法家协会会员展、上海大阪友好城市书法邀请展和书协交流活动。近年来在波士顿地区，在从事医学研究工作以外利用业余时间，用中英双语致力于中国传统文化的教学活动。
成人书法
我们可以通过两个基本课程，启动这迳堂引擎，希望在尽快的时间内达成这个目标。我们的基础课程，会帮助大家立即上手，体会笔法和结构，有如启动汽车，把车档打到一二三档，目的是练习技术，或者观看周围风景；进阶课程则是四五档的水平，这样，你可以全面体会各种名家的方法，各种字体的特点，有机组合，书写作品，高速公路上的风景也会不错，但是主要是到达目的地 – 即产生作品。

成人国画
大多数学习绘画的朋友，包括我自己，都希望尽量了解国画的本质，以便尽快看出作品的优秀之处。这个目的，必须通过三个关口，第一，能够亲自用自己的笔墨和颜料，画出具有高级中国画意味的笔画来；第二，能够画出既是局部，又有整体效果的小作品来；第三，能够妥帖地把自己的名款题在画上，并且有真实的意味。这三点，也是三个步骤。在准备充分的条件下， 其实不难。
我们希望通过两种课程，帮助大家体会这其中的奥秘。第一个课程，是花卉画和四君子画。通过把玩硬毫和软毫，笔尖和笔肚，浓墨和淡墨，墨色和彩色，互相对比的方式，学习中国画艺术的基本特质，看看张大千和齐白石，在点化毕加索的时候（直接和间接地），怎么让这位大师受益的；第二个课程，是山水和点景。通过学习南派和北派山水皴法，传统树石染色法，巨树和远树的画法，以及人物骡马的点景画法，看宋人怎么在画。宋人是怎么真正做到了书画同源，而后人违背书画同源的道理而不自知的后果。我们了解别人的失误而得着的阶梯，是爬上去而站在巨人之肩的不二法门。
